I started out singing other people''s songs. I wrote my own songs, but for a long time I couldn''t sing them in public because they were so personal. As I became stronger, it became easier to sing my own songs, and I now only record songs that I''ve written. When a song pops into my head (one of my own), it''s a combination of pop, rock, soul, rhythm-n-blues, jazz, or any combination thereof. My songs mix in my subconscious, and by the time I become aware of them, they''re generically mixed. I like Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Rickie Lee Jones, Janis Joplin, Judy Garland, Charlie Parker, Tom Waits, Sly Stone, and so many other performers. It''s all good.
