Americana/bluegrass musician Bob Wright got his first guitar when he was nine years old. It had Black Diamond strings stretched taut over a scimitar neck skewered onto a plywood body. But it could make music if you wanted it bad enough. And he did. And he still does. And his songs reflect that hard won work ethic. Merlefest thought so when it made him a 2003 finalist in the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Competition. His hometown of Staten Island, New York thnks so and periodically gives him grant money to keep writing. Audiences who have heard him alone or in a band setting know it. And you should know it too. And you should also know that he got a banjo when he was 16 and things have never been the same.
