Child psychiatrist, author, and lecturer Dr. Edward Hallowell often tells the story of the difficulty he had learning to read in elementary school and of the comforting role of his first grade teacher Mrs. Eldredge. It is a classic anecdote of the positive and lasting effect that a sensitive, knowledgeable instructor can have on a student.

Now the story is told in a song recorded by folk music legend Tom Paxton and produced by Grammy® winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, The song was written by Steven Cutts.

This recording was engineered and mixed by Jim Robeson at Bias Studios, Springfield, Virginia. Jim also recorded the bass part; Cathy played the guitar; and the piano track was performed by Lenny Williams.
