this is cryptic scenery''s first full-length cd release, dating from 1999. seven songs somewhere between dark and/or new wave and hypnotic repetition, ranging from compact beautiful tunes like "oceanic feeling" to mesmerizing spheric sounds ("the chill"), or from the slow twang-laden twelve-minute epic "my mother flies" to the minimalist stripped-down sounds of "no tomorrow". in retrospect, this was as catchy as cryptic scenery would get - and still, there is a unique sound about this album, with its glassy new wave guitar sounds, its warm, introverted vocals with a certain bryan ferry influence and its sensitive rhythm section - it manages to keep the balance between being melancholic and tuneful. hum along or allow yourself to lose yourself in the oceanic feeling.
