Talula was born and raised in the mountains of Western North Carolina in a family of living room musicians. She has been a singer-songwriter since she was a teenager. Her style reflects influences of folk, bluegrasss, blues, and Southern gospel. She mentions particularly Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt, Etta Baker, and Sarah Carter. Her songs are based on her own life experiences. Talula lives in Asheboro, North Carolina with her husband Richard and her son Isaac. She performs regularly in churches and house concerts. She has won recognition in many songwriting contests, including being a finalist for "This is What the Darkness is for," and "Jesus is the One." She has placed on the European Country Music Association charts in many countries including Italy, Sweden, Norway, Austria, and the Netherlands for several of her Christian songs.
