"16 Minutes" is an inspired tribute song to the astronauts and family of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. The song was written by Atlanta businessman and songwriter David Huseonica who grew up in Rockledge Florida, just a few miles from Kennedy Space Center. "We lived close enough to the Space Center that our windows would rattle anytime there was a launch. We would run outside to catch a glimpse of the spacecraft rising above the horizon. No matter how often I saw a launch, it was still breathtaking to experience the blazing stream of fire, smoke, and crackling sonic percussions," recalls Huseonica.

Besides growing up on the Space Coast, Huseonica has several ties to the space program. His father retired from NASA after 35 years of service. In addition, several members of his family and friends have spent their careers helping further our country''s space exploration.

These close ties to our nation''s space program served as inspiration for 16 Minutes, which Huseonica wrote shortly after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
